Jeremiah Derby is the epitome of a passionate indie creator. Since the day he was able to pick up a pencil, he discovered one of the greatest loves of his life, drawing.
Through countless hours of practicing animation principles, watching animated films, scouring artbooks, studying art from master storytellers, and applying techniques in his sketchbooks, Jeremiah learned what it took to create beautiful animation and craft soul-touching stories.

It all started with legos…
“Early in my childhood I became exposed to LEGO Stop Motion Animation. Or as the geeks like me called it, ‘Brickfilming.’ I found my Mom’s Video Camera [A Sony Handycam DCRSX63] and started shooting. After a couple hundred frames and a quick edit in Windows Movie Maker, I pressed the play button. What I saw that day was not a bunch of images going by really really fast, but a magical world that I became teleported into. This day was the beginning of a lifelong dream of becoming an animator.
Of course, at that time I thought I would be making Brickfilms the rest of my life.”

College was a time
for exploration…
“From comics, to painting, to graphic design, to photography, to web design, to sculpture, to screenwriting, the list goes on and on.
As a Studio Art Major at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, I tried many different things. Many of these things were beyond my comfort zone and pushed me beyond my limitations. Because of this diversity, I believe I’m a better artist today.
This journey is what eventually led me back to animation. My purpose in life suddenly became clear.”

“Wrestling and Boxing for UNC as a Division One Athlete was a privilege I will forever be grateful for. The mindset and philosophies I developed during that time equipped me with the discipline to turn my dream of creating animated films into reality.
In December of 2022, I graduated from UNC with my Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art. During my time at UNC I met the love of my life; afterward, we moved to western North Carolina, and on May 22nd, 2023, we brought our beautiful daughter, Alunamyah into the world.”

Where We’re Headed
Badger Studios is on a mission to create the best Traditionally Animated Films. With the rise of AI, Hollywood wants us to believe Animation is dying. That’s total bullsh*t [pardon my language]. Animation is alive now more than ever, and it’s not going anywhere.
We’re on our way to developing our first feature film, but we have to take baby steps first. Along the way we plan to take you along with us as we share our journey and give any dreamers like us, the knowledge and resources to make animated movies too.
